From the 10th to the 16th of October, the city of Aveiro hosted several actions and events in a week dedicated to technology, art and culture. Altice Labs was once again the Main Sponsor of this great event, being present in several moments.
Several initiatives took place in various locations around the city, from conferences, workshops, competitions, hackathons and the Criatech and Prisma/Art Light Tech festivals, which brought exhibitions and artistic installations of light and sound.
The opening session, at Teatro Aveirense, was attended by Paulo Firmeza, head of Altice Labs’ Innovation Strategy and Digital department, who reinforced the company’s connection to Aveiro. „We’ve been in Aveiro for over fifty years making innovation and it’s been from here that a number of milestones of Portuguese technology to the world have been born. We are a strong employer in the city and we have a very heavy responsibility to the region in that regard,“ he said.
On the 11th of October, Filipe Cabral, from Altice Labs’ Innovation Strategy and Digital department, represented the company with his participation in the „City Catalyst“ workshop at the Atlas Building. This workshop aimed to explore how technologies can contribute to improve the people’s quality of life in urban environments and make cities more sustainable, through integrated urban management that is more efficient and effective and a catalyst for innovation and competitiveness.
On the 14th of October, at Fábrica da Ciência, a Hackathon took place in which Altice Labs contributed with a challenge. It was an eight-hour hacker marathon, where participants were asked to develop innovative and disruptive solutions. Altice Labs’ challenge had four participating teams, and a prize of five thousand euros was awarded to the winning team.
It is also worth mentioning that throughout the week several Tech Sessions took place, conversation sessions that aimed to bring together, on the same stage, national and international speakers. Of note was the session on the 11th of October, entitled „The Phygital World in Industry“, attended by Pedro Carvalho, Head of the Research and Innovation Ecosystem at Altice Labs. This session addressed the importance of the phygital strategy and its requirements for a successful implementation and presented some good examples applied to industry.
On the 14th of October the topic „Women in Tech“ was discussed, where the importance of creating a more diverse and inclusive technology community globally was explored as well as promoting greater representation and power of women around the world. This session was attended by Ana Figueiredo, CEO of Altice Portugal.
It should also be mentioned that in the context of Aveiro Tech Week, on the 12th of October Altice Labs received a visit from approximately 40 university students. The goal was to make the academic community aware of the company’s business dynamics, its activities, business strategies, challenges and the qualified jobs it offers, thus reinforcing the connection between the Aveiro City Council, the University and Altice Labs.
